Artists will challenge themselves by painting with only a few tubes of paint; this is called a Limited Palette. They will select a light or white color, a dark or black color, and a few medium tones to create a full picture. Artists throughout history have employed a limited palette at times, such as Anders Zorn (Swedish Painter, 1860-1920), John Singer Sargeant (American Painter, 1856-1925), and Claude Monet (French Painter, 1840-1926).
Do the palettes chosen in this show change the mood of each piece? Do you think they would be stronger or weaker with a full spectrum? Do you think Limited Palette art leaves the work lacking or feeling unfinished?
Reception date and time TBD.
