Expressionism
Erika has always been enthralled by humanity. People fascinate her (cats too). Her basic field is expressionism and her works are portraits and genre compositions.
Says she:
"People give off their own ‘vibes’ and can reveal the most remarkable things about themselves. Each of has a very personal way of seeing the world. And these are the qualities I believe I bring forward, often on an instinctive level."
“People enjoy ‘seeing through my eyes’. I have been told that my work has ‘presence’. One often feels as if the subject were not on the wall, but actually in the room. One man remarked that my portrait of him looked more like him than he does.”
“As regards style, I love ambience, deja vu, that certain something, and flirting with the cliché, One gets a definite sense of place, or of time of day, or of having been there before."
Erika has spent most of her life in California. She has participated in shows in London and the Bay Area. She has had one-person shows in locations in Stockton, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Santa Clara and San Jose. She created commission portraits and sold fine art to collectors in California, and a few in Europe and Yokohama.
