The Artists Among Us: Native People Today

  • Bankhead theater 2400 First Street Livermore, CA, 94550 United States (map)

Exhibit at the Bankhead Gallery, 2400 First Street, Livermore

Exhibition of art from artists of native descent. Reception, Performance and activities to celebrate Native culture is June 4, 1-4 pm, Bankhead Gallery and Bankhead Plaza.

Working with Mary Puthoff from the Livermore American Indian Center, we reached out to Native artists with the idea of bringing an exhibit that tells the story that Native people are here and around us and that most have a keen artistic sense…some creating art in formal manners such as oil on canvas and others incorporating artistic sensibility in their craft and everyday lives. We wanted to bring art that represents Native culture in all of its contemporary forms. We will be presenting a Native culture celebration on Sat June 4 from 1-4 pm in conjunction with the Livermore American Indian Center. There will be pow wow dancers and live musician on the Bankhead plaza. There will be a tipi maker that will be presenting an educational talk and demonstration on tipi building and its close association with the arts. There will be a nationally recognized story teller named Dovie Thomason, known for her stories of First Nations, speaking in the Bankhead lobby.
