Transcending Subject through Simplicity and Abstraction 

“The greatest obstacle to representation is representation itself.” – Mitchell Albala

The most important question a representational painter can ask themselves is, "What are my paintings about?" Are they primarily about the “things” that populate the pictures? Or are they more about an aesthetic that transcends subject? In this presentation, landscape painter Mitchell Albala will reference his own work and the work of others, to show how simplification, composition, and abstraction can help push your work into a new dimension. For more than 30 years, Mitchell Albala has been a dedicated landscape painter and teaching artist. His atmospheric and semi-abstract landscapes have been exhibited nationally and are represented in corporate and private collections.

During his presentation, Mitchell may also use examples of work from PAL members to help illustrate his points.
