One season has ended and a new venture begins. My mother’s journey with Alzheimer’s ended this past April, (2024). Her care took me back to my childhood home in Massachusetts. I laid aside the oil paints for the sake of her health and mine and for ease of clean up. I began working with water soluble paints, mostly gouache, an opaque watercolor.
I’ve included some of the New England scenery in the small gouache paintings shown here. In “Turnpike Dairy”, I was drawn to the similarity between the truck cab and boxlike head of the Black Baldy cow. “Other Side” is a tribute to the many strong women I have had the privilege to be on this journey with. The study with horses depicts the powerful and beautiful Friesians at a training center for both horses and riders. I liked seeing the anglers and their blend of action, observation and patience in “Fly Fishing the Bend.”
Coming Soon…I am currently working on a children’s picture book and a story that came to mind after a snowstorm. The characters in my wintry scenes experience anger, frustration, restoration and forgiveness.
